Shadi Hamid of the Washington Post has spent years arguing that the Muslim Brotherhood was nonviolent, that it and offshoots like Hamas were an aspiring democratic force, and that Israel is what keeps Arabs from democratising. Now he calls me a fringe Palestinian voice for writing in the New York Times that Hamas should be removed and held accountable for Gaza's devastation. Hamas stole aid, militarised Gaza, launched wars that killed tens of thousands and carried out the worst single-day massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. In his account it bears no blame at all. I do not call people who disagree with me terror enthusiasts. I reserve that for people who incite threats against me. Tone rewrite only. Claims remain the author's and are not independently verified.
