I do not believe Burnham has a democratic mandate: he did not lead Labour into a general election, and members had no leadership ballot. Starmer at least faced voters as party leader. I regard this as a failure of democratic accountability. Other countries should refuse to deal with this government until voters have a say in who leads it. Tone rewrite only.
