We need to rethink how much weight psychiatric testimony gets in court. It seems wrong that someone can commit murder and the defence can bring in psychiatrists to describe what was going on in the killer's mind at the time, as if anyone could know that. No expert can look back in time and read another person's unspoken thoughts. This country should get over its reverence for psychiatric testimony as if it were hard science. It is speculation, not fact.
