Why grounded?

Insults between fans kept derailing the back and forth.

Grounded

A post mocks Jayden Daniels for throwing the ball away on fourth down. Replies argue whether it was a blunder or smart.

Sides

• Poor awareness: Throwing it away on fourth down, a week after forgetting he had no timeouts, shows poor situational awareness.
• Ball security: With a flag on the offense the play was coming back, so throwing it away avoided a costly interception.
• Take a shot: On fourth down you throw to the end zone and give a receiver a chance, since a sack costs nothing extra.
• Open receiver: A receiver was wide open over the middle, so the throw was there to be made.

Why grounded?

Insults about immigrants and party slogans crowded out the replies on the deal itself.

Grounded

Prime Minister Chris Luxon hails the India trade deal coming into force as a win for exporters. Replies argue over its tariff terms and migration.

Sides

• Export gains: Lower tariffs open one of the fastest growing economies to Kiwi goods, bringing more orders, jobs and higher wages.
• Lopsided deal: India keeps tariffs on some New Zealand goods while New Zealand drops all of its own, so India won more.
• Migration terms: The government has not said how many Indian workers can move to New Zealand under the deal, and voters want that answered.

Why grounded?

The thread piled onto the coach and drifted into betting insinuations.

Grounded

A post calls a Rams screen pass Sean McVay's worst play call ever. Replies split on blaming the call, the execution or an earlier handoff.

Sides

• Predictable screens: Screens on long downs have become predictable when the offense needs to throw past the sticks.
• Worse call: The fourth and one handoff to Davis Allen was a worse call than this screen.
• Poor execution: The call had room to work; a dropped catch and a good play by a defender killed it.
• Possible audible: Matthew Stafford may have seen the blitz and changed the play at the line.

Why grounded?

The thread drifted into accusations about referees before agreeing on which flag the post meant.

Grounded

A post calls a roughing the passer flag on the Packers the worst in history. Replies split on whether the body weight rule justified it.

Sides

• Bad call: The flag on the Packers defender was awful and should have been corrected, since it came out before the contact did.
• Clear roughing: This hit was textbook roughing the passer, even if an earlier flag in the same game was garbage.
• Body weight rule: The league now flags defenders who land on the quarterback with their body weight, so this call follows the rule.
• Officiating slump: Officiating has been awful all season, with no accountability for bad calls.

Why grounded?

Replies re-argue the same replay angles and trade insults instead of answering each other.

Grounded

Florida State coach Mike Norvell says late calls cost his team against Miami. Replies split on whether the final catch was a touchdown.

Sides

• Officiating failure: The final pass was simultaneous possession and a touchdown, and the late holding flag was ticky-tack.
• Call stands: No replay shows the receiver with possession; the Miami defender had firm control through the fall.
• Coaching accountability: Norvell left points on the field by passing on field goals and going for it on fourth down.
• Both ways: A facemask call against Miami earlier gave Florida State seven points, so the officiating cut both ways.

Why grounded?

Replies trade one-line put-downs instead of engaging with the case being made.

Grounded

A post calls Enzo Fernández's £125m move to Manchester City the worst Premier League transfer ever. Replies split on what one bad game says about him.

Sides

• Worst ever: With three years of footage on him, paying £125m was unforgivable, and he loses control of games.
• Manager demand: The fee is a Maresca tax: the manager wanted him, and the City board likely never did.
• Fan bias: City fans disliked him before he arrived, so turning on him after one loss means little.

Why grounded?

Jokes and complaints piled up and buried the few substantive replies.

Grounded

A post shares a study linking frequent daytime naps to higher dementia risk. Replies split on what the link means and on trusting such studies.

Sides

• Early symptom: Frequent napping may reflect brain changes that disrupt sleep years before diagnosis, rather than causing dementia.
• Plausible link: Needing many naps a day is itself unusual, so a higher dementia risk among frequent nappers makes sense.
• Mixed messages: Naps were praised as healthy a year ago, so a dementia warning now makes such studies hard to trust.
• Study doubts: The findings should be reviewed, since memory loss also appears in people who never take naps.

Why grounded?

Slurs and fan insults buried the replies that argued the point.

Grounded

A post says Jayden Daniels has not won in over a year and calls him overrated. Replies argue over what the stat leaves out.

Sides

• Winless stretch: Over a year without a win and nearly two without a 300-yard game put him behind Maye and Williams.
• Missing context: He barely played last year and lacks support; he is 12-0 when Washington allows under 24 points.
• Dual threat: His rushing adds to his passing, with over 300 total yards last game, so passing yards understate him.
• Early fade: His path recalls RG3 and Cam Newton, dual-threat starters whose early promise faded.

Why grounded?

Insults and slogans crowded out the few replies that engaged the clip's arguments.

Grounded

A clip shows George Monbiot arguing the UK should rejoin the EU fully. Replies split on whether the EU, Brexit or Westminster is the real problem.

Sides

• Full membership: Only full membership restores a vote, MEPs and a Council seat; single market access alone makes Britain a rule taker.
• EU in decline: The EU is a failing, corrupt bloc, and countries such as Iceland do fine outside it, so closer links beat rejoining.
• Unrealistic terms: Rejoining is not Britain's call alone, and the EU's likely conditions would rule out a return to the old membership deal.
• Government, not Brexit: Poor UK government explains the damage more than leaving did, and Britain was a large net contributor to the EU budget.

Why grounded?

Replies cycled the same one-line verdicts and talked past each other.

Grounded

A stat post gives Bo Nix the best career record in games under 6.0 yards per attempt. Replies split on who actually earns those wins.

Sides

• Wins despite inefficiency: Nix wins ugly games, 13-3 under 6.0 yards per attempt and 7-2 under 5.0, where other active starters rarely win.
• Defense carries: Denver's elite defense wins these games, wins are not a quarterback stat, and the record flatters a mediocre passer.
• Checkdown offense: Short, inefficient checkdown passing is his normal pattern, and low-efficiency starts make up an unusually large share of his games.

Why grounded?

Replies scattered into unrelated health theories instead of the study itself.

Grounded

A CTV News post reports a study linking chips, cereals and frozen meals to brain damage and dementia. Replies argue over the science and who is responsible.

Sides

• Regulators failing: Canada lets harmful products onto shelves, so companies should be held accountable instead of shoppers.
• Junk science: Diet studies keep flipping, like the coffee and heart disease link, so this one deserves doubt.
• Small effect: The study's own numbers show only slightly higher incidence in the heaviest eaters, not a big jump.
• Healthy food unaffordable: Real food is too expensive for ordinary Canadians, which pushes families toward processed meals.

Why grounded?

The polling question kept getting buried under fraud claims and name-calling.

Grounded

A post cites a CNN analyst saying a 2 to 4 point polling miss would give Republicans both chambers. Replies argue whether past misses apply to midterms.

Sides

• Hidden GOP vote: Polls underestimated Republicans in 2016, 2020 and 2024, and herding suggests a bias near four points.
• Midterms differ: Those were presidential years; midterm polls in 2018 and 2022 did not underestimate Republicans.
• Coin flip: If a two-point error decides control, the race is a toss-up, and polls are only snapshots.
• Prices cut against GOP: Grocery and gas prices make even Trump supporters doubt Republicans will win the House.

Why grounded?

Replies traded blame between players without agreeing on what the numbers showed.

Grounded

A post blames India's T20 bowling woes on picking Nitish Kumar Reddy and Naman Dhir over specialist bowlers. Replies split on who really leaked runs.

Sides

• Specialists first: Part-time all-rounders cost too many runs, so India should pick specialist bowlers like Kuldeep Yadav instead.
• Specialists leaked too: Arshdeep, Axar and Mayank were the expensive ones, so the problem is picking the wrong specialists.
• Flat pitch, experiment: On a batting paradise anyone gets hit, and bilateral series are the place to test combinations.
• Reddy did his job: Reddy bowled well at the death with few fielders out, and a dropped catch inflated his figures.

Why grounded?

Replies fired one-line rebuttals at a long post without engaging each other.

Grounded

A post says Chelsea were never the world's best team but win finals as underdogs. Replies argue over their record and recent cup final losses.

Sides

• Underdog spirit: Chelsea win finals as underdogs, beating a stacked Bayern in 2012 and Manchester City in 2021.
• Best when it counted: Three European triumphs are no fluke, so Chelsea really were the best team at those times.
• Domestic final losses: Chelsea have lost too many domestic cup finals in recent years for the underdog theory to hold.
• Coefficient leaders: Chelsea topped the UEFA club coefficient around 2008, which technically made them Europe's best team.

Why grounded?

Repeated personal jabs and accusations turned a specific comparison into a factional pile-on.

Grounded

An Atlanta WNBA Finals ticket-price comparison drew pushback. Replies dispute what resale listings and earlier playoff attendance reveal about actual demand.

Sides

• Resale uncertainty: A $201 resale listing before public sales cannot show what Finals buyers will actually pay.
• Finals demand: The Finals should sell out as Atlanta and Golden State fans compete for increasingly expensive tickets.
• Capacity context: Earlier playoff crowds reflect restricted seating, making comparisons with the full 17,000-seat arena misleading.

Why grounded?

Personal attacks and repeated accusations pushed the exchange into a hostile pile-on.

Grounded

Jason Clare backed Australia's Digital Duty of Care Bill as child protection. Replies dispute government powers and its relationship with existing age restrictions.

Sides

• Child protection: Social media and online gaming need stronger safeguards to protect children from harmful online environments.
• Parental authority: Parents can protect their children without granting the government greater control over online information and speech.
• Existing safeguards: Existing under-16 social media restrictions make the need for an additional child-protection bill unclear.

Why grounded?

Insults and competing assumptions repeatedly tangled substantive replies into overlapping arguments and rebuttals.

Grounded

A post challenges MLB's stated reasons for proposing salary caps. Replies dispute whose interests the changes serve and how teams should compete.

Sides

• Owner interests: Owners seek financial advantages, so fan support for a cap does not establish their motives.
• Payroll balance: Fans can support narrowing payroll disparities through a cap and floor, regardless of why owners want them.
• Player retention: Smaller clubs face losing key players when other teams can offer them more in free agency.
• Talent development: Teams can pay players market value or develop replacements, rather than relying on restrictions on salaries.

Why grounded?

Repeated dismissals and personal insults pushed substantive criticism into competing defensive exchanges.

Grounded

Lisandro Martinez publicly criticizes Manchester United's leadership after a defeat. Replies argue over whether players should speak out about problems within their club.

Sides

• Player candour: Fans deserve frank post-match criticism rather than rehearsed messages after another disappointing defeat for Manchester United.
• Player responsibility: Martinez and his teammates must answer for their own performances before blaming Manchester United's leadership.
• Unequal treatment: Romero faced criticism for speaking out at Spurs, but Martinez receives praise for comparable public comments.

Why grounded?

Repeated complaints about the same failure crowded out competing explanations in the replies.

Grounded

A post highlights Braves walks that produced no NLDS runs. Replies dispute whether the pattern reflects improved patience, pitching errors or hitting problems.

Sides

• Improved patience: The Braves became more selective in October but lacked timely hits to convert their opportunities.
• Pitching misses: Snell and Glasnow issued walks by missing badly, rather than because Atlanta improved its approach.
• Situational hitting: Atlanta's swing-for-the-fences approach leaves too few hitters able to convert runners into runs against good pitching.
• Small sample: A reversal across a few playoff games cannot establish that postseason results are predictable.

Why grounded?

Repeated assertions about different incidents kept the replies circling without a shared focus.

Grounded

A post revisits Scotland's disputed penalty against Wales in 1977. Replies argue over the handball, throw-in and an earlier challenge on Kenny Dalglish.

Sides

• Wrong award: Scotland received a penalty for Joe Jordan's handball, unfairly punishing Wales for the opponent's offence.
• Invalid throw: The throw-in preceding the handball was illegal because the thrower's back foot left the ground.
• Earlier foul: Scotland had already been denied a penalty when Dai Davies fouled Kenny Dalglish near goal.
• Accidental slip: Dalglish slipped during the earlier incident, so it should not have produced a penalty for Scotland.

Why grounded?

Personal insults and repeated partisan accusations crowded out the practical questions in replies.

Grounded

Steve Hilton proposes new water infrastructure to halve bills. Replies question water availability and how his plans would reach households.

Sides

• Storm capture: California should invest in capturing stormwater rather than letting heavy rainfall go to waste.
• Supply limits: Building more dams and reservoirs cannot increase supplies without identifying enough water to fill them.
• Legislative strategy: A water plan needs a strategy for getting projects through an opposing state legislature.
• Agency costs: High household bills call for closer scrutiny of how water agencies manage distribution costs.

Why grounded?

Dismissive responses turned a practical exchange into another round of competing fan exaggerations.

Grounded

Oklahoma City's rookies produced strong preseason stat lines. Replies dispute whether those numbers justify immediate roles on an already crowded roster.

Sides

• Immediate impact: Stirtz scoring 26 points with six threes shows shooting that can help Oklahoma City immediately.
• Preseason limits: Strong numbers against developmental opponents do not establish that the rookies are ready for regular roles.
• Rotation pressure: Oklahoma City's loaded roster still leaves the question of where both rookies will find meaningful minutes.
• Development upside: Mara's passing, court vision and physical development offer considerable upside if his shooting and defense improve.

Why grounded?

Repeated ranking assertions drifted into side arguments instead of engaging with the different criteria offered.

Grounded

Rio Ferdinand's midfield ranking highlights Roy Keane in an older clip. Replies dispute which qualities should determine the Premier League's greatest midfielder.

Sides

• Midfield influence: Roy Keane's ability went beyond tackling, with his quality and captaincy deserving greater recognition.
• Complete player: Steven Gerrard's all-round ability makes him the strongest candidate for the Premier League's greatest midfielder.
• Modern standout: Kevin De Bruyne belongs above Vieira, Scholes and Gerrard in any ranking of Premier League midfielders.
• Statistical case: Frank Lampard's statistical record puts him ahead of the other contenders for the Premier League's best midfielder.

Why grounded?

Partisan labels and sweeping accusations displaced direct engagement with the qualifications raised in the replies.

Grounded

Long Beach voted to consolidate most council comments upfront. Replies dispute how far the policy limits residents' ability to speak on specific agenda items.

Sides

• Public accountability: Moving comments before staff presentations cuts residents' chance to respond to the council's proposals and challenge its decisions.
• Policy exceptions: Public hearings keep separate comment periods, and the chair can extend the opening 90-minute window.

Why grounded?

Confident predictions kept cycling past qualified replies instead of engaging with the reasons they offered.

Grounded

Denver reached 3-2 before Thursday's game against Seattle. Replies dispute how much confidence the record warrants given the team's uneven offensive performances.

Sides

• Record perspective: Denver's 3-2 record is a reasonable result given the difficult schedule at the start of the season.
• Offensive concerns: Denver's offense still lacks consistency, making the record less reassuring for the rest of the season.
• Fixable problems: Offensive issues can improve with line changes and better play from Bo Nix as the season progresses.
• Matchup doubts: Seattle looks likely to beat Denver on Thursday, leaving the Broncos facing a less comfortable 3-3 start.

Why grounded?

Repeated dismissals and conflicting counts diverted attention from the different assessments offered in the replies.

Grounded

Lionel Messi's recent match statistics are highlighted in a post. Replies dispute how opposition strength and team results should shape individual assessments.

Sides

• Opposition quality: MLS opposition is below elite level, so strong individual numbers carry less weight in comparisons.
• Individual contributions: Messi's individual contributions should be assessed separately from how many matches Inter Miami win or draw.
• Team results: Inter Miami's wins and draws matter when judging whether Messi's strong individual performances translate into success.

Why grounded?

Repeated accusations of dishonesty displaced direct engagement with the distinctions raised in the replies.

Grounded

Jason Kenney cites the UCP's merger commitment to a united Canada. Replies dispute whether that history should determine the party's current independence stance.

Sides

• Founding mandate: The UCP's merger commitment to a united Canada should still guide its stance on Alberta independence.
• Adopted principles: A merger proposal does not bind today's party when its adopted principles omit loyalty to Canada.
• Changed circumstances: Canada's changed political circumstances justify revisiting the UCP's original commitment to remain in the federation.
