Why grounded?

Tribal jabs and repeated dismissals drowned out the more practical replies.

Grounded

Everton's spending limits prompt questions about its appeal to buyers. Replies split on what new ownership could achieve under those rules.

Sides

• Spending constraints: Spending limits protect established clubs by preventing ambitious Everton owners from closing the gap through investment.
• Smart ownership: Everton needs patient owners with a clear footballing vision and smart recruitment rather than unlimited spending.
• Stadium value: Everton's new waterfront stadium can grow matchday and commercial income to support a competitive squad.
• Rivals' spending: Removing spending limits would let rival clubs invest too, leaving Everton with a bigger rebuilding challenge.

Why grounded?

Repeated detours pushed an increasingly dismissive discussion into people talking past each other.

Grounded

A post proposes expanding MLB to 32 teams with a 156-game schedule. Replies split on rest, talent supply and opponents.

Sides

• Schedule redesign: Expanding to 32 teams with a 156-game season would give players regular rest and simpler series.
• Talent limits: Adding two teams would stretch an already thin player pool instead of improving the league.
• Broad matchups: Fans should keep seeing every team each year instead of waiting years for some home series.
• Ticket costs: Shortening the season could raise ticket prices for fans if player salaries stay the same.

Why grounded?

Personal jabs at whole professions turned substantive objections into a defensive pile-on.

Grounded

An AI post welcomes replacing jobs across service professions. Replies argue about what workers contribute and who bears the costs of replacement.

Sides

• Adaptation opportunity: AI replacement across service professions would push people to find new ways of adding value.
• Human relationships: Lasting personal relationships remain central to sales in fields where customers value the human connection.
• Human accountability: Teachers and lawyers provide the responsible human presence people need when important decisions go wrong.
• Livelihood costs: Replacing whole professions threatens the entry-level jobs that give people a route into the middle class.

Why grounded?

Personal dismissals turned competing explanations into scattered accusations about who deserves blame.

Grounded

A Yankees post calls the franchise complacent after 17 years without a title. Replies dispute responsibility and whether the drought warrants that assessment.

Sides

• Manager accountability: Keeping Aaron Boone after repeated postseason disappointment leaves the Yankees without meaningful accountability for failing to win.
• Ownership responsibility: Hal Steinbrenner has accepted ordinary playoff results instead of demanding the championship standards he inherited.
• Competitive relevance: A playoff sweep of Boston this season hardly describes a franchise that has lost its standing.
• Drought perspective: Seventeen years without a World Series title is modest compared with the much longer waits other teams endure.

Why grounded?

Repeated dismissals buried substantive replies beneath a pile-on about other people's football knowledge.

Grounded

A post challenges claims that Jalen Hurts needs unusually strong teammates. Replies dispute whether roster comparisons fairly account for each quarterback's performance.

Sides

• Consistent standards: All quarterbacks need strong teammates, so Hurts should not lose credit for winning with a talented roster.
• Roster depth: The 2024 Eagles combined elite protection, receivers, rushing and defense that rival quarterbacks rarely enjoyed simultaneously.
• Individual performance: Quarterbacks deserve different evaluations when some perform well with weaker supporting casts while Hurts struggles without them.

Why grounded?

Repeated dismissals turned an initial warning into a circular argument with personal insults.

Grounded

A football image was called AI-generated in a post. Replies dispute whether image distortions change the authenticity of the play it depicts.

Sides

• Image fidelity: Distorted helmets and body parts make the circulated image misleading, even if the underlying play happened.
• Event authenticity: AI enhancement does not make the underlying play fictional; the original image still documents a real event.
• Practical correction: Sharing the original footage gives viewers a useful correction, rather than merely complaining about AI images.

Why grounded?

Replies talked past one another rather than addressing each other's specific objections.

Grounded

Asteroid City's roadrunner was filmed as a puppet with digital cleanup. Replies dispute how practical effects should be defined and valued.

Sides

• Physical craft: A physical puppet gives the roadrunner natural movement and the handcrafted feel that the filmmaker wanted.
• Digital dependence: Removing puppeteers and rebuilding backgrounds still requires visual effects, exchanging one kind of digital work for another.
• Budget tradeoff: Practical effects require choreography and production time that smaller films may struggle to afford.

Why grounded?

Replies raised separate objections without engaging with one another's underlying concerns.

Grounded

A post predicts an AI-powered gaming boom in 2027 and 2028. Replies weigh faster development against quality concerns and questions about asset rights.

Sides

• Faster prototypes: AI lets independent developers prototype their ideas faster and cheaper, leaving creativity to distinguish their games.
• Quality filtering: Opening game development to more people produces poor games alongside gems that players still need to find.
• Asset rights: Free browser access does not remove copyright concerns when AI remakes use another company's game assets.
• New entrants: New studios built around AI can adapt faster than incumbents constrained by entrenched practices and culture.

Why grounded?

Repeated dismissals turned practical feedback into a pile-on about other players' competence.

Grounded

NBA 2K27 received a patch that drew enthusiastic praise. Replies split over shooting consistency, defensive effectiveness and how much ratings should decide outcomes.

Sides

• Shooting consistency: The patch makes shooting easier and more consistent, improving the experience of landing well-timed shots.
• Defensive balance: The patch leaves defense too weak, with shot contests ineffective and stealing attempts often punished.
• Contested chances: High defensive ratings should not automatically prevent baskets when attackers still have opportunities to score.

Why grounded?

Personal insults and sweeping dismissals repeatedly displaced the few replies addressing specific objections.

Grounded

OpenAI released mathematical documents that drew an academic objection. Replies dispute whether publishing AI-generated research respects the work and motivations of mathematicians.

Sides

• Open publication: OpenAI should be free to publish mathematical work even when mathematicians did not request it.
• Research credit: Publishing AI-generated mathematics as novel work must respect the credit owed to existing human research.
• Future usefulness: Published mathematical output can help future AI systems even before humans identify a practical application.
• Professional purpose: Losing a valued role in mathematics deserves empathy even if mathematical skills still have value.

Why grounded?

Competing predictions repeatedly turned into dismissals of taste and accusations about hidden influence.

Grounded

Variety places Olivia Rodrigo and Olivia Dean ahead in its Grammy forecast. Replies dispute the picks ahead of voting and nomination announcements.

Sides

• Rock appeal: Olivia Rodrigo’s rock-influenced album deserves Album of the Year ahead of Dean’s project on musical merit.
• Classic grooves: Olivia Dean’s timeless grooves deserve Album of the Year even for listeners who also enjoy Rodrigo.
• Wider field: Rosalía, Noah Kahan, Raye and Madonna deserve consideration beyond a race limited to the two Olivias.
• Early predictions: Voting has not started, so an early forecast should not be treated as an awards outcome.

Why grounded?

Repeated dismissals and personal jabs pushed more specific replies into a pile-on.

Grounded

Glen Powell links The Running Man's flop to Paramount's marketing layoffs during its merger. Replies argue over what held the film back.

Sides

• Marketing disruption: Paramount's marketing layoffs during the merger undermined promotion just before The Running Man's release.
• Film appeal: The remake fell short of Schwarzenegger's original; better marketing would not fix the film's weaknesses.

Why grounded?

Dismissive replies and disconnected arguments leave the different positions talking past one another.

Grounded

Ray Dalio warns that the AI market bubble could soon burst. Replies dispute his credibility and the likely market outcome.

Sides

• Warning credibility: Dalio’s repeated bubble warnings undermine his credibility, giving this latest prediction little weight.
• Technology and valuations: AI can be a genuine technological revolution even when parts of the market form a speculative bubble.
• Financing costs: The AI trade depended on cheap money; ten-year Treasury yields matter more than another bubble headline.
• Limited correction: The AI bubble will correct rather than collapse because the technology is still in its early stages.

Why grounded?

Repeated jabs and side chatter obscured the distinct positions in the replies.

Grounded

An Angry Runs post compares Kyle Monangai’s three awards with Derrick Henry’s six. Replies dispute the selection’s merit and fairness.

Sides

• Weekly merit: Monangai’s run was the best of the week, even if it would not win every week.
• Team favoritism: Repeated awards for a Bears player raise doubts about a Bears-supporting host’s impartiality in selecting winners.
• Viewer voting: Viewers should choose the winning run from the clips rather than leave selection to the show’s hosts.

Why grounded?

Repeated conspiracy accusations pulled the replies away from the substantive exchange.

Grounded

A post blames excessive officiating for making NFL games frustrating. Replies debate whether flags, inconsistent enforcement or other interruptions are the bigger problem.

Sides

• Excessive flags: Calling every minor infraction interrupts games too often when officials could allow more contact and continuous play.
• Consistent enforcement: Unclear standards for holding, pass interference and roughing the passer frustrate viewers more than the number of flags.
• Viewing interruptions: Replay reviews, coaches' challenges and frequent commercials slow the viewing experience even when officiating calls are appropriate.
• Player responsibility: Players committing infractions bear responsibility for penalties, even when fans focus their complaints on the officials.

Why grounded?

Fan taunts repeatedly diverted substantive comparisons into dismissals of opposing players and supporters.

Grounded

Pau Cubarsi's World Cup success is cited against comparisons with Matthijs de Ligt. Replies dispute how team achievements should influence individual defender ratings.

Sides

• International credentials: Starting for a World Cup-winning defence and earning its young-player award strengthen Cubarsi's standing among elite prospects.
• Teenage leadership: De Ligt's leadership of Ajax as a teenage captain offers a stronger benchmark for outstanding individual defending.
• Team protection: Spain's defensive record also reflects Rodri, Laporte, Cucurella and Unai Simon, limiting what it says about Cubarsi alone.

Why grounded?

Repeated reassurances obscured the specific objections being raised to the original warning.

Grounded

A post warns Dallas could lose to Tampa Bay on Thursday. Replies dispute the defensive risks posed by the Buccaneers' rookie quarterback.

Sides

• Scramble threat: Dallas struggles to contain mobile quarterbacks, making Jalon Daniels' rushing ability a threat despite Tampa's difficult start.
• Defensive improvement: Dallas's conventional run defence has improved; quarterback scrambles make its overall rushing record look worse than expected.
• Containment plan: Disciplined rush lanes and a quarterback spy can force Daniels to pass rather than escape upfield.
• Shared preparation: Both teams face a short week, so reduced preparation time alone does not uniquely disadvantage Dallas.

Why grounded?

Personal attacks and speculation pulled replies away from the practical criticism.

Grounded

AI-built Adobe lookalikes face criticism for unusable workflows. Replies dispute whether those problems reflect lasting limits or shortcomings better development can fix.

Sides

• Workflow quality: Adobe lookalikes need reliable handling of real artists' files and workflows, rather than merely matching the interface.
• Model progress: Better visual models given video and direct input could reduce the bugs that make today's clones unusable.
• Deliberate implementation: LLMs can assist careful implementation, but a polished clone still requires detailed specifications and testing.

Why grounded?

Conflicting personal experiences and dismissive replies repeatedly sent the discussion over the same ground.

Grounded

Mets fans report automatic 2027 ticket renewals after an August deadline. Replies dispute how clearly cancellations were explained and whether the deadline is absolute.

Sides

• Clear notice: Automatic renewal was explained through contracts, emails and calls, so fans had sufficient notice to cancel.
• Uneven communication: Some representatives failed to explain cancellation clearly, leaving ticket holders surprised by renewal charges.
• Renewal fairness: An August opt-out deadline commits fans too early, even if automatic renewal is a longstanding policy.
• Cancellation exceptions: Individual late cancellations have received refunds or reversed charges, so the deadline has not always been absolute.

Why grounded?

Rival fan jabs repeatedly displaced substantive replies as the argument cycled.

Grounded

An NFL post matches Brady and Mahomes through 151 starts, including playoffs. Replies debate what identical records reveal about individual greatness.

Sides

• Career trajectory: Matching Brady's win-loss record through 151 starts puts Mahomes on a path toward surpassing him.
• Team results: Quarterback wins reflect the whole team, so identical records cannot establish equal individual greatness.
• Career longevity: Brady's strongest years came later, so Mahomes must sustain elite play much longer to match him.
• Supporting casts: Mahomes began with Kelce and Hill, so Brady's early supporting cast makes the matching records less comparable.

Why grounded?

Repeated taunts and copied rebuttals turned the discussion into a circular fan argument.

Grounded

Drake reportedly withheld his recent releases from Grammy consideration. Replies debate what his absence means for the awards' relevance and musical credibility.

Sides

• Award credibility: Drake's refusal to submit weakens the Grammys' credibility by excluding one of music's biggest artists.
• Institutional independence: The Grammys remain relevant without Drake because their standing does not depend on one artist.
• Artistic criteria: Grammy recognition rewards artistic quality rather than streams or sales, so Drake's popularity is not decisive.

Why grounded?

Dismissals and accusations kept pulling detailed replies into repetitive arguments about bias and motives.

Grounded

Tom Cruise's Digger opened with $8 million domestically and $20 million worldwide. Replies debate what the opening reveals about marketing and audience reception.

Sides

• Marketing failure: Trailers failed to explain Digger's appeal or release date clearly enough to draw potential viewers.
• Budget discipline: Original filmmaking deserves investment, but ambitious projects need spending limits rather than blank checks for filmmakers.
• Audience reception: Opening-night audience surveys offer a better measure of reception than self-selected online praise for Cruise.
• Artistic appeal: Digger's distinctive storytelling can find appreciative viewers and build word of mouth beyond its opening weekend.

Why grounded?

Dismissive replies and personal jabs pushed the discussion into competing blanket assertions.

Grounded

A post praises Forgotten Island's $80 million budget. Replies dispute what lower costs mean and how it could recover from weak ticket sales.

Sides

• Budget discipline: Keeping Forgotten Island's production budget to $80 million shows better cost discipline than Disney's animated films.
• Outsourcing costs: A cheaper outsourced production model does not establish that DreamWorks manages budgets better than Disney.
• Recovery prospects: Streaming and remaining international releases could help Forgotten Island recover costs after its weak opening.
• Streaming scepticism: Forgotten Island is unlikely to become a major streaming hit capable of changing its commercial fortunes.

Why grounded?

Derisive replies and competing corrections turned the conversation into a cycle of dismissals.

Grounded

A post calls Digger's opening a failure. Replies disagree on audience tastes, Oscar ambitions and which budget figures to use.

Sides

• Audience expectations: Viewers want Tom Cruise's action films, rather than a comedy built around environmental messaging.
• Award ambitions: Digger's purpose is to compete for Oscars, so opening-weekend sales are the wrong yardstick.
• Budget dispute: The $160 million budget is disputed, so loss estimates need to distinguish reported costs from studio figures.
• Film quality: Digger disappoints as a film, even for viewers who usually enjoy watching Tom Cruise.

Why grounded?

Accusations and guesses about motives crowded out substantive replies and obscured the actual disagreements.

Grounded

AI replies on X prompt a complaint about their growing presence. Replies dispute their purpose and how reliably humans can identify automated accounts.

Sides

• Engagement farming: Automated replies chase exposure at scale, rewarding volume over original contributions from human accounts trying to compete.
• Useful contributions: AI-assisted replies should be judged by relevant experience and substance, rather than by their writing style alone.
• Detection uncertainty: Natural-sounding automation and formulaic human replies make confident bot identification difficult from the wording of a reply.

Why grounded?

Dismissive predictions and personal attacks obscured the competing criteria behind repeated expressions of preference.

Grounded

A Grammy prediction names Lux and albums by Olivia Rodrigo and Olivia Dean. Replies dispute whether artistic quality should outweigh wider public appeal.

Sides

• Artistic merit: Ambitious, cohesive production makes Lux a deserving contender, regardless of how widely its tracks are recognized.
• Public appeal: Albums with memorable tracks and broad public support deserve stronger consideration than music that audiences overlook.
