A House committee voted for a 20-year Bitcoin hold. That is not the same as buying more.
The Financial Services Committee advanced H.R. 8957 by 28-21. The amended bill would centralize qualifying federal Bitcoin and make it much harder to sell.

What moved
This was a committee vote, not passage into law. The bill still needs the full House, the Senate and the president.
What it locks
Qualifying federal Bitcoin—including eligible forfeited coins—would move to Treasury custody and be held for at least 20 years. The bill also requires annual public reserve reporting and an independent audit.
What it does not do
It does not authorize a taxpayer-funded Bitcoin shopping spree. It orders a study of lawful, budget-neutral ways to acquire more and expressly rules out new taxes, borrowing and deficit spending.
