Trump renamed Lake Ontario for US federal use. Canada does not have to follow.
The order changes the US geographic-names system. It does not create a universally binding new name for the shared lake.

What changes
The order directs the Interior Department to update the federal Geographic Names Information System within 30 days. US federal agencies would then use Lake America.
What does not
The US cannot require Canada, international bodies, private mapmakers or the public to adopt the name. Canada can continue recognizing Lake Ontario.
Why now
The order follows a worsening US-Canada trade dispute. About 47% of the lake lies within the United States, but the waterbody is shared.
