Our government is packed with career politicians and bureaucrats who produce nothing, fix nothing, and exist to take money from the people who work and pay the bills. They resent having to face elections at all. I have nothing good to say about any of them on either side, except those in the Trump administration fighting to change it.

Portsmouth: 500 blockaded the port, riot police cleared it at 3am

A day after Dover, masked protesters blocked the road from Portsmouth's port after a boat carrying about 140 people was rescued and landed. This time police used riot shields and a dispersal order.

  1. What happened: A dinghy from Normandy got into difficulty in UK waters and was rescued by two RNLI lifeboats and landed at Portsmouth. Around 500 demonstrators, many in black and masks, blocked the road out of Eastney for hours.
  2. Police response: Hampshire Police formed lines with riot shields and issued a Section 14 order at about 3am on Monday, after which the crowd dispersed. A dispersal order runs until Monday evening. No arrest count has been published.
  3. What the argument is about: A government spokesperson condemned intimidating and thuggish behaviour. Supporters say police guarded the boat rather than the coast; critics note the same masked playbook as Dover. Farage attacked the crossing itself.

Gabriel's boot met Martinez's head. Here is why there was no card.

Five minutes into Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea, Gabriel caught Emi Martinez in the head and play went on. The anger online is about a red card; the decision turned on one rule.

  1. What happened: An Odegaard free kick produced a goalmouth scramble. Both players were on the ground when Gabriel kicked at the ball and hit Martinez's head. VAR reviewed it and restarted play with no action.
  2. Why no card: Under Law 12, violent conduct means excessive force while not challenging for the ball. Gabriel was judged to be playing the ball, so that route closed. VAR intervenes only for a clear and obvious error, a high bar in a scramble.
  3. What the argument is about: Chelsea fans and Haaland call it a disgrace and point to a boot in the head. Others say intent was impossible to read; Gary Neville said Gabriel simply missed the ball. Arsenal stay top on three from three.

The Washington Post reports that while Witkoff and Kushner were in Moscow to negotiate an end to Russia's war on Ukraine, they were also discussing large US-Russian economic projects with the Kremlin, which Putin's adviser Ushakov confirmed. Reuters reported the same. The men entrusted with a peace settlement are simultaneously talking business with the other side. Watch whether any deal ends up benefiting Trump-linked interests. AfD at 44 percent in Saxony-Anhalt, just short of a majority

Projections give the AfD its strongest state result ever, more than double its 2021 vote. The number to watch is whether it reaches an absolute majority of seats.

  1. The projection: ZDF at 18:27: AfD 44.1, CDU 18.5, Linke 9.2, SPD 8.8, Greens 8.7, BSW 4.8, FDP 2.4. Bloomberg's exit poll had the AfD at 44.5. In 2021 the CDU won with 37.1 percent and the AfD took 20.8.
  2. Why the majority matters: Every other party keeps a non-cooperation firewall against the AfD. More than half the seats lets it govern alone; if BSW clears the 5 percent threshold that gets harder. Early projections have it just short.
  3. Turnout: 65.3 percent by 16:00, about 24 points above the same point in 2021, whose final figure was 60.3 percent. Posts calling it a political earthquake are reading an interim number.

Hundreds masked, no arrests, and Farage called it disgusting

A masked Stop the Boats protest shut the A20 and the Port of Dover on Saturday. The fight online is over the balaclavas, the policing, and who gets to call it peaceful.

  1. What happened: About 300 men in black and balaclavas blocked the A20 and the port from 6:45am on 5 September and dispersed by midday. Kent Police called it spontaneous and made no arrests. Ferries paused.
  2. Who condemned it: Nigel Farage called it disgusting and said nobody should protest in balaclavas. Labour's Jonathan Reynolds and Dover MP Mike Tapp agreed. Rupert Lowe defended it as peaceful, and many Reform supporters turned on Farage.
  3. What the argument is about: Supporters cite zero arrests and no violence. Critics cite masks, rental vans and a blocked port, and a former superintendent called it an intelligence failure. Small boat arrivals are down 46 percent on last year.

Leicester lost 4-0 at home to Oxford. Russell Martin has one win in five in League One.

Appointed in July, Martin is already the subject of 'worst manager of the century' posts after Saturday's result at the King Power.

  1. The result: The Athletic and Ben Jacobs report the 4-0 home defeat and one win from the opening five League One games. Leicester's own appointment post from July has 1,500 replies.
  2. The verdict online: FootyAccums, at 262,000 views, calls it 'a generationally awful managerial run' and makes a case for worst manager of the 21st century. Vararse_ asks how you lose 4-0 at home in League One with Leicester.
  3. The record behind it: Martin's recent spells at Southampton and Rangers both ended early, and the Rangers 'mentality problem' interview from last season is being reposted. Nobody in the room is defending him yet, and there is no word from the club.

Gasly lost his Monaco podium on Friday. On Saturday he took his first pole, at Monza.

The FIA's court of appeal reinstated a pit-lane speeding penalty and handed P3 to Hadjar. A day later Gasly put the Alpine on pole in front of Briatore.

  1. The appeal: formularacers_, at 572,000 views, reports the International Court of Appeal reinstated Gasly's Monaco penalties for speeding in the pit lane, dropping him to seventh and giving Isack Hadjar the podium. Briatore told the press one judge in the case has links to McLaren.
  2. Robbed: Gasly's line, 'they've robbed us, this won't end here', has 152,000 views on Nachez98's post. Alpine has not said what the next step is.
  3. Monza: F1's own post of the pole has 2.6 million views and 114,000 likes. F1BigData notes Gasly had 190 starts without a pole, the second most ever. The jokes about Briatore's mood and George Russell losing pole are the fun half of the room.

Masked men shut the Port of Dover. Farage called it disgusting, Rupert Lowe praised them.

Several hundred men in black blocked port access on Saturday morning. Kent Police reported no violence. The right split within hours.

  1. What happened: Sky News reports Kent Police had no reports of violence and were talking to demonstrators. The Park Run was cancelled and port traffic stopped. Inevitablewest's post, at 720,000 views, says the protesters refused to move.
  2. The split on the right: Farage called it 'disgusting' and said nobody should protest in balaclavas. Rupert Lowe, at 131,000 views, said it was peaceful and politicians should understand the anger. Tommy Robinson says Farage 'jumps straight to condemn'.
  3. Labour and the jail argument: Dover MP Mike Tapp told the protesters to go home and get a job. Brendan Cox, at 75,000 views, notes Extinction Rebellion bridge blockers got three years and hopes the ringleaders get the same.

Miriam Margolyes asked Andi Peters 'what are you'. ITV cut it and said nothing.

On ITV's This Morning, Margolyes assumed Peters had a white parent and called him 'high-yalla'. The clip has passed 5 million views.

  1. What was said: Margolyes suggested a black father and white mother. When Peters said both parents are black, she called him 'high-yalla', a plantation-era term for lighter-skinned black people. Peters told her the producers were 'getting nervous'.
  2. ITV's edit: ripx4nutmeg's post, at 1.5 million views, says ITV cut the exchange from the online version and issued no apology. Narinder Kaur, at 187,000, reads Peters' calm as a black presenter managing someone else's racism on air.
  3. The scrutiny argument: Stephen Pollard's Telegraph column calls her 'an irrational disgrace' and says a straight white man would have been cancelled years ago. AntSpeaks, at 463,000 views, notes she was there to promote a book about racism and the far right.

Jay-Z plays London tonight. The room is arguing about how fast it sold.

A 30-year celebration show at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 4 September, preceded by a Trafalgar Square pop-up. One observation about sales turned into a legacy debate.

  1. The observation: Ronke Lawal wrote that Jay-Z 'may very well have overestimated his current popularity or underestimated the current economic climate'. It passed 695,000 views. She later added she likes him as an artist and was only surprised the shows did not sell out sooner.
  2. The pop-up: Footage of Jay-Z at his Trafalgar Square pop-up passed 763,000 views. One reply room reads the walkabout as 'hoping to whip up a frenzy' and says a Kanye or 50 Cent appearance would have been chaos.
  3. What is not known: No sales figures are public. The stadium's own announcement from July passed 444,000 views. Whether the show sold out, and when, is the unresolved question in every thread.

Two Nintendo Directs in two days. Zelda gets its own, then Switch 2 alone.

Nintendo announced a Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct for 8 September and a Switch 2 Direct for 9 September. The prediction rooms filled within hours.

  1. The announcement: Nintendo of America's post passed 5 million views. The Zelda showcase runs about 30 minutes, the Switch 2 one about 45 and is billed as focused on games launching this winter.
  2. The wishlists: Prediction threads want Ocarina of Time remake gameplay and a first Zelda movie trailer. Nintendeal's 'most unrealistic expectations' prompt drew 1,400 replies and 220,000 views.

  2. The showcase: Gold Derby described Taylor Swift's Icon Sessions as giving her access to the songwriter voters who decide Song of the Year. Replies split between fair campaigning and buying influence.
  3. The confession: Pusha T described the touring and appearances needed to compete after Clipse lost Best Rap Album to Kendrick Lamar. Replies read it as industry politics, as sour grapes, or as an honest account of his own effort. Rooms carried 162K, 73K and 58K views.

Two actors quit a London play over Maureen Lipman's views on Israel. She told one to 'grow up'.

The play opens 5 September. The argument has run for a week.

  1. What happened: Gerard McCarthy withdrew from 'Right Before I Go' at Soho Theatre, saying on Instagram he was not comfortable promoting Lipman's involvement given her views on Israel and Palestine. Iz Hesketh followed. Lipman called him a coward; the production says it will go on.
  2. Two readings: One side calls it an attempt to ostracise Jewish artists who will not disavow Israel. The other says an actor may decline a stage over politics, and points to Lipman's own refusals.
  3. The room: GB News carried 413K views, Hen Mazzig 216K, Daniel Epstein-O'Dowd 169K. Replies on both sides run to slurs. A claim that Lipman appears only on the final night is unverified.

Davido vs Erigga: how a post about 'family money' became a two-day feud.

It started with a shoutout that named nobody. Davido took it personally.

  1. The spark: On 1 September Erigga saluted musicians who 'don't come from family money'. Davido replied 'Comot here with that your useless motivation. Imbecile', then 'Ambassador for poverty'.
  2. The reply: On 3 September Erigga posted five times, asking why a post naming nobody made Davido 'crash out', calling him 'Ambassador of RICH KIDS' and 'Slovido', and saying disability insults are never cool.
  3. The room: X has split into who started it, whether Davido's record earns deference, and whether Erigga is chasing clout. Two rooms we sampled today carried 39K and 25K views.

ChatGPT, Claude and Grok went down the same morning. Nobody has named a cause.

Three rival chatbots failed within the same hour on 3 September, and X filled the gap with theories.

  2. The timeline: Anthropic's status page logs elevated errors on Mythos 5.1, Fable 5.1 and the Opus line from 13:26 to 16:23 UTC. OpenAI said a fix was applied and services were recovering within the hour.

Two Democrats carried a failing GOP rule. Jeffries has referred them to the caucus rules committee.

Jared Golden and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez supplied the votes that put an anti-socialism resolution and the SAVE Act on the floor.

OpenAI says Astra is the first model to cross its Critical cyber threshold.

The label means a model can find and exploit zero-days in hardened systems on its own, so full access is being restricted.

  1. What it did: In testing Astra scored 100% on ExploitBench, found two previously unknown vulnerabilities, escaped a browser sandbox to run commands on the host, and chained flaws to reach root on a hardened OS.
  2. What changes: The full cyber capability will not ship broadly. Early access goes to vetted defenders, wider access through the Daybreak Blue program, with extra safeguards first.
  3. What is claimed, not shown: OpenAI reports Astra refuses 91.5% of cyber jailbreak attempts, up from 59% for GPT-5.6 Sol. These are the company's own evaluations, and no release date is given.

DLSS 5 ships tomorrow: one game, RTX 50 only, about half your frame rate.

Nvidia's neural rendering goes live September 3 in NBA 2K27. The cost is the argument.

  1. What launches: 9pm Pacific on September 3, NBA 2K27 only, RTX 50 Series and GeForce NOW Ultimate. Nvidia's announcement does not mention RTX 40 or older cards.
  2. What it costs: Nvidia says it runs five times faster than the March demo. Independent reporting still puts the raw frame-rate penalty at 50 to 60 percent before upscaling and frame generation.
  3. Why it is contested: Nvidia says the output is deterministic and artist-controlled. Critics say the gains are subtle, and a leaked file applied to Cyberpunk 2077 flattened the game's intended look.
